This body of work began as image archive. To achieve their final form, images from the archive were processed through an AI image generator, printed, collaged, and merged with real (unprocessed) photos. These collages were then scanned and blurred in post. The effect is series of images that feels austere, uncanny, inpenetrable and horrific. AI’s mechanical misinterpretation of human form and urban space is an analogy for bureaucratic and industrial failure. The peculiar, almost infant-like inability of AI to count limbs, understand flesh distinct from architecture, or interpret the limits of body and space, became the material basis for an exploration of the precarity of the human body subjected to the violence of systematic predetermination and infrastructural “imagination.”
